Get to know Terhi
Terhi, which apparently got its name from a specific Finnish lady, was founded in 1972 and the factory premises were inaugurated by none other than the republic’s president back then, Urho Kekkonen. During the past 50+ years more than 235,000 boats have been manufactured, making Terhi by far the biggest boat manufacturer in northern Europe. The Terhi boats are still today manufactured at the same factory in Rymättylä, which is located in the archipelago of Naantali.
The unique manufacturing method is what sets Terhi apart from other similar small boats on the market, and it is also the reason Terhi boats are fully unsinkable and have a finish unlike any of the competitors. Today Terhi boats are exported to more than 20 different countries, even if the Nordics still remain the main markets.
15 reasons why you should choose a Terhi
If you’re looking for a small, reliable boat for versatile use at your summer home, for small adventures and leisure trips, fishing purposes or as a means for transportation, Terhi could be just the boat for you. Thanks to the high broadsides and stable hulls, boaters both young and old will enjoy the rides, making Terhi the optimal family boat. Here are a few reasons why you should consider a Terhi ABS boat when choosing the next boat for your adventures:
ABS plastic (acrylic-butadiene-styrene) is a weather-resistant, strong, tough, unbreakable and easy-to-maintain material, designed to withstand marine conditions and especially tailored for Nordic conditions. It also allows for smart boat repairs, even in a DIY manner.
The space between the vacuum-formed outer shells is filled with closed-cell, water-repellent polyurethane foam, which acts as a structural reinforcement and buoyancy aid. The layered structure dampens hull-borne noise and makes the boat completely unsinkable.
The low center of gravity makes the boats very stable.
Some models feature a reinforced keel.
Durable and comfortable seating.
Intelligent space solutions and storage compartments.
Ergonomic to both drive and row.
Self-draining.
Rails made from acid-resistant steel.
Comprehensive range of accessories.
Lightweight and easy to handle.
Refined, stylish appearance with no sharp edges.
Safe high sides and good hull design.
The manufacturing process does not produce harmful emissions; excess ABS plastic is reused, and the PU foam does not contain harmful CFC compounds.
At the end of its lifecycle, a Terhi boat can be converted into energy by incineration at a waste-to-energy plant.
The unique Terhi structure
Every Terhi hull is made of strong, weather-resistant and durable ABS plastic. The hulls are always constructed with a double or triple shell structure, and the space between the vacuum-formed outer shells is filled with closed-cell, water-repellent polyurethane foam. This unique sandwich structure makes the boats extremely durable and completely unsinkable, at the same time as it gives them a refined finish.
When properly processed, ABS plastic is an exceptionally strong material, effectively withstanding impacts and scratches that boats need to endure. This makes ABS plastic an excellent choice for boat manufacturing. If a Terhi were to sustain a significant damage from a hard impact, the ABS plastic boat is advantageous in that dents and cracks can even be repaired or patched by the owner in a DIY manner.
TerhiTec Oy
TerhiTec Oy is one of Europe’s leading boat manufacturers. Depending on the year, about 4000-5000 boats are produced annually at three different factories in Finland. Terhi boats are manufactured in the archipelago of Turku, Silver aluminum boats Ostrobothnian Ähtäri, and the pure fiberglass Silver boat models TerhiTec lets manufacture in Valkeakoski. As far as we know, TerhiTec is the only European boat producer capable of manufacturing boats from three completely different materials.
TerhiTec manufactures unsinkable and durable Terhi ABS boats in the fishing village of Rimito, located just outside Naantali in Western Finland. Thanks to the unique dual hull construction, of which the void inbetween is tightly spray-filled with non-absorbent polyurethane foam, we produce long-lasting and easy-to-maintain small boats for the whole family to enjoy. We call this unique construction the Sandwich structure, and it makes the boats both weather- and impact-resistant, as well as practically unsinkable. The wide model range includes Finland’s most popular row and motor boats, which can be seen at most summer houses around the Finnish Lake District and archipelago. TerhiTec, founded in 1972, has over the years manufactured more than 235,000 Terhi boats, making Terhi by far Finland’s best-selling boat brand.
TerhiTec Oy is part of the Otto Brandt Group, which was founded in 1905. In addition to TerhiTec Oy, the group includes the Honda and Segway importer Oy Brandt Ab, the TG cabin boat factory Freja Marine, the contract manufacturer of fiberglass products and boats Fenix Marin Oy, and Finland’s largest boat, motorcycle, and ATV retailer Bike & Boat World Oy.
